Stanley Kurtz, a Senior Fellow at the Ethics and Public Policy Center pointed out in a 09/23/08 Wall Street Journal article that, “Despite having authored two autobiographies, Barack Obama has never written about his most important executive experience.”

The experience that Kurtz referred to was Obama’s appointment in 1995 as Chairman of the Board at the Chicago Annenberg Challenge (CAC) a “school reform organization” founded by his longtime friend and political ally, Bill Ayers. Ayers, a home grown terrorist for the Weather Underground during the Vietnam War era, has written, in his book Teaching Toward Freedom, that his educational objective is to “teach against oppression” as embodied in “America’s history of evil and racism, thereby forcing social transformation.”

Kurtz notes that Obama served on the Board or the CAC until 1999 and remained actively involved in the organization until 2001. Although Obama was insistent that the extent of his relationship with Ayers consisted in his being just “a guy” from the neighborhood, a September 2008 article from WorldNetDaily offers details that Obama’s relationship with Ayers was much deeper and that CAC frequently granted money to far-leftist organizations and causes.

Kurtz, in a follow-up article published in the National Review, exposed Obama’s wealth redistributionist ties to the New Party. According to Discover the Networks, most New Party members hailed from the Democratic Socialists of America and the militant organization ACORN. The party’s Chicago chapter also included a large contingent from the Committees of Correspondence, a Marxist coalition of former Maoists, Trotskyites, and Communist Party USA members.

Although the Obama machine tried to dismiss Kurtz on its Fight the Smears website, evidence showed that Obama was heavily involved in the New Party in 1995 and according to New Party News of Spring 1996, page 1, was a bona fide New Party member.

According to the Romanticpoet’s weblog, evidence compiled by noted Marxist researcher, Trevor Loudon, demonstrates that Obama, as early as 1993, was involved with a New Party “sister” organization, Progressive Chicago.

This organization was formed by members of the New Party as a support group for “progressive” candidates. Its main instigators included New Party members Madeline Talbott of ACORN-Chicago and Dan Swinney, a Chicago labor unionist.

In 1994 Dan Swinney was listed on a “Membership, Subscription and Mailing List” for the Chicago Committees of Correspondence, an offshoot of the Communist Party USA. And, in 2009 Dan Swinney, Center for Labor and Community Research (CLCR) was listed as a signer of the Progressives for Obama website.

Although CLCR’s Mission “To strengthen communities through initiatives to redefine, rediscover, and rebuild the manufacturing sector in the knowledge economy,^” seems rather benign and almost altruistic. However, a closer look at the documents on the organizations “Publications“ page makes clear that CLCR is focused on social, economic and environmental (green) justice.

One example is Dan Swinney’s article on “Building the Bridge to the High Road.” Let’s take a look at what the Mutualist Blog: Free Market Anti-Capitalism had to say in its review of Swinney’s work.

He’s preaching to the choir as far as I’m concerned. I’ve written myself about the need for the alternative economy or counter-economy to grow beyond merely operating in the interstices of a state capitalist structure, and to evolve into an interlocking network of cooperative production, finance and retail operations that will eventually supplant the existing state capitalist framework.

The blogger offers further praise:

Swinney draws several lessons from his years of experience in the CLCR, of using High Road practices to save and turn around failing business firms under labor and community leadership.

One of them I strongly agree with:

The market is not synonymous with capitalism. The market is an achievement of human civilization that both predates capitalism and will persist for a long time even if capitalism is replaced by another system.

Another interesting item is CLCR’s relationship with ShoreBank. Bob Williams writes in a June 2003 article titled “Model of Economic Democracy” that “Shorebank Group from Chicago’s South Side” functioned as a “mentor” in helping Williams establish “Western Canada’s largest financial services cooperative,” Vancity Capital Corporation, a subsidiary of the Vancity Credit Union, which functions as a business lender in the new economy, that lends against cash flow on a subordinated debt basis (cashflow-based, unsecured term loan financing) to British Columbia’s businesses, co-operatives and non-profit organizations. According to Vancouver’s Straight.com, “Vancity has over $14.5 billion in assets and more than 400,000 members” and focuses on environmental success and social sustainability.

Williams grew up in an “old socialist family,” and like Barack Obama is very familiar with Community Organizing and community organizers. He is also used to serving on the board of organizations that focus on “economic justice” and has served in public office as the Chairman of the board of the Crown’s Insurance Corporation of British Columbia. (also of interest on ICBC’s website, B.C.’s Fairness Commission Report – related to healthcare).

Williams a devotee of Bologna, Italy’s Professor Stefano Zamagni, writes in his 2003 article that:

The old Chicago school view of economics as “only an exchange of equivalents” in a commercial marketplace is a view that is unacceptable to Zamagni.

“… the modern attempt to build the welfare state as a highly motivated goal that has gone somewhat awry because of the nature of state delivery systems and the lack of reciprocity in the relationship between the provider of welfare and the client; a pattern that is complicated further by the differing values of the politician and bureaucrat involved in the process.”

It appears that Dan Swinney has learned a lot from Robert (Bob) Williams about “globalization” and “redistributive wealth.” After graduating with a Bachelor’s in History from the University of Wisconsin at Madison, Dan worked as a machinist for 13 years in the Chicago area. He organized Steelworker Local 8787 at G+W Taylor Forge in Cicero, Illinois and served as Vice President. Taylor Forge closed in 1983. Dan founded the Center for Labor and Community Research (CLCR) in 1982 in response to the thousands of manufacturing plant closings in the Chicago area.

In July 2005, Swinney started the Chicago Manufacturing Renaissance Council. CMRC has been working to inform the public and influence key leaders, organizations and institutions about the social and economic viability and vitality of the modern manufacturing economy and has established “partnerships” with The City of Chicago, the Department of Community Development and the Office of Apprenticeship, U.S. Department of Labor, and was even commissioned by Illinois Manufacturers’ Association to issue a report, to analyze the condition of Illinois manufacturing.

Although the CMRC may also seem like a benign, pro-business, pro-manufacturing organization, “The Trade Association as a Factor in Reconstruction” by Franklin D. Jones, Counselor at Law, Washington, D.C. clearly reveals that American “reconstruction” involves not only “labor organizations,” like the SEIU but also large and seemingly “reputable” trade organizations.

This fact helps answer the question, “Why would a trade organization that appears to be pro-business and pro-USA manufacturing jobs, like the Illinois Manfuacturers’ Association, commission a socialist organization like the CMRC to issue a report?

If trade associations are indeed involved in this reconstruction effort, Obama’s appointment of Ron Bloom as Manufacturing Czar, makes perfect sense. Because it is only when big labor, trade associations and government are working together that “reconstruction” can be achieved and a Socialist Utopia can be realized.

In the book, Global Profit and Global Justice, Shorebank, like Vancity, designs, implements, manages, and advises loan programs in local banks and loan funds, in developing and transitional economies, with capital from major financial institutions. Also like Vancity, ShoreBank’s focus is on “triple bottom line investing,” the idea that a truly sound investment is one that provides financial rewards and offers social and environmental benefits.

To destroy the free U.S economy, Globalist companies’ world-wide must be supportive of “reconstruction” efforts. Groups servicing these companies must be able to identify projects, raise capital, and locate strategic partners. World’s leaders on sustainability must frequently get together to attend conferences where they can network and exchange information and ideas on the best way to implement their New World Order agenda.

On the home front, globalists, through our liberal-biased educational system, the liberal media and various propaganda initiatives have succeeded in demonizing our Founders, our Constitution, business, capitalism and the free market.

However, total reconstruction can not be achieved by “brainwashing” alone which has been going on for decades. It has to be achieved through a coordinated effort that, in effect, demoralizes and discourages entrepreneurs who attempt to realize the “American Dream.”

Entrepreneurs will have to be chronically discouraged. Therefore, taxpayer funded governmental agencies, like the Small Business Administration, developed to help entrepreneurs and small and medium sized businesses with training, and financial opportunities must function as a deterrent by offering “red-tape” and misdirection for entrepreneurs seeking help.

To achieve reconstruction, start-ups and existing small and medium sized businesses must achieve a high rate of failure. And, the SBA must purposely have such poor and lax oversight that every program they are tasked with administering is completely unsuccessful, so their mission is never realized.

They must also establish small business loan programs that are riddled with “red-tape,” in addition to setting unrealistic expectations for small business owners who obtain SBA loans, to ensure that there is a high percentage of loan defaults. This creates a huge financial burden for many community banks and further adds to the growing federal deficit, a win-lose situation where the socialists win and the capitalists lose.

In terms of competition in the marketplace, the system, through regulation, must create an un-level playing field that makes it so difficult to for companies to compete and make a profit, that they are forced to “move” jobs overseas. This creates a win-win for the globalists, because when jobs are moved overseas, economic prosperity is “shifted” from the United States to poorer countries. This creates “wealth redistribution” and “social justice” for other citizens of the world. and results in the job losses that causes our communities to further decline and our standard of living to further decrease. Again, the socialists win and the capitalists lose.

We already know that government is growing at such a fast pace that its growth is endangering our economy. If the end goal is to create a Marxo-Fascist “welfare state” where citizens are entirely dependent on the government for everything; healthcare, housing, food, etc, what better way to achieve this goal then by controlling labor organizations, infiltrating trade organizations, and “sabotaging” entrepreneurs and small and medium sized businesses, to minimize the growth of the private sector?

It’s happened twice in the past week:  the Obama Administration has spoken negatively about the “troubling” Arizona illegal immigration law overseas at America’s expense.

First, the Assistant Secretary of State Michael Posner spoke to the Chinese behind closed doors about the new law.  Here’s what Bill O’Reilly had to say about that in his Talking Points on Monday.  O’Reilly is completely right — moral relativism between a law that mimics an already wimpy federal statute on the border and the totalitarian police-state reaction the Chinese have to those who cross their borders is absolutely ridiculous.  Alas, the Obama Nation staying true to its tolerance of totalitarian thought while making America look like the bad guy continues unabated.

Today, however, the Obama Nation wasn’t quite done being ridiculous.  Teaming up with his buddy Mexican President Calderon, Obama slammed the Arizona law while persisting to lie about what is in it.  Calderon seemed to be getting his talking points from the Democrat Party, plus he advocated for borders which “unite us instead of dividing us” (my bold).  That’s kind of scary, especially these days with a president like Obama being within earshot.  Isn’t the point of borders to divide one political entity from another?

By the way, to Mr. Calderon: what’s current Mexican law on illegally crossing Mexico’s borders?  Oh yeah, crossing the borders illegally is a felony in Mexico, which could lead to two years in jail, or ten years if you come back.  Plus, Mexicans who assist illegals are considered criminals too.  It sounds like the policy of a sensible country looking to secure their own territorial integrity while trying to grab some of ours while their at it.  Calderon has no credibility speaking about Arizona’s law, and until President Obama actually reads the law, neither does he.

Well – at least they admit it. According to the Chicago Tribune, the head of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), John Morton, said “his agency will not necessarily process illegal immigrants referred to them [sic] by Arizona officials.”

Yes. Let me give you a moment to re-read that paragraph. The guy in charge of immigration enforcement for the United States of America is saying he will refuse to enforce immigration laws. Sounds like someone doesn’t understand the requirements of his job.

Kudos to Senator Jeff Sessions for calling him out on Fox news earlier today. According to Fox, when reached for comment, DHS responded by acknowledging that what Morton said was true and then added that “[t]he President ordered DOJ to examine the civil rights and other implications of this law. That review will inform the government’s actions going forward.”

Senator Sessions rightly pointed out that the administration looks like it is “nullifying existing law.” And further, that if “[Morton] can’t enforce the law, he shouldn’t have the job. That is the top immigration enforcement position in America, he is required in my view to seek the help he can to enforce the law, and to reject the help of the law officers in Arizona – and all over America for that matter – makes him in my view not fulfilling the responsibilities of his office.”

Hey, remember when we conservatives said that if you let the federal government into everybody’s healthcare, pretty soon it will stick its peering eyes and groping hands into our personal business?

Welcome to “pretty soon,” thanks to Wisconsin Democrat Ron Kind.

Kind has introduced a bill that would commandeer your health insurer to report to the federal government the body mass index (BMI) – i.e., height and weight – of your children every year from age 2 to 18:

States receiving federal grants provided for in the bill would be required to annually track the Body Mass Index of all children ages 2 through 18. The grant-receiving states would be required to mandate that all health care providers in the state determine the Body Mass Index of all their patients in the 2-to-18 age bracket and then report that information to the state government. The state government, in turn, would be required to report the information to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services for analysis.

The Healthy Choices Act–introduced by Rep. Ron Kind (D-Wis.), a member of the House Ways and Means Committee….amends the Public Health Services Act by stating that health care providers must record the Body Mass Index of all children ages 2 through 18. “The provision relates to all children in states that accept grants under the bill,” a spokesperson for Rep. Kind told CNSNews.com. “….BMI will be taken at times when the child makes an otherwise scheduled doctor’s visit.”

Let’s leave aside the many methodological problems with BMI as a measurement of obesity (such as the fact that muscular, athletic males are almost always classed as obese). The bill requires federal taxpayers to lay out yet more money to create yet another intrusive apparatus for tracking and storing information that, for example, your 16 year old daughter might regard as rather personal:

To pay for implementing BMI data gathering, Sec. 102 of the bill states that the federal government will give grants to states that meet certain criteria, including having “the capacity to store basic demographic information (including date of birth, gender and geographic area of residence), height, weight, and immunization data for each resident of the state.”

The grants also will pay for personnel and equipment necessary to measure patients’ BMI.

By the way, just what is Andy Stern doing, since he left SEIU on that day that Barack Obama went AWOL, saying he went to see one of his two Russian-named daughters play soccer?

And by the way, both Beck and Sarah Palin were listed in Time Magazine’s “100 Most Influential People in America” and… Sarah Palin did the clever Glenn Beck write-up, there. (Palin on Beck, also Ted Nugent on Palin.) Is that not a fascinating combination of overlapped signaling?:

1. Sarah Palin signals to us awake and aware Americans that she knows what is going on (at least as much as do we, anyway).
2. Time Magazine signals to fellow “progressive” evils, “Hey! See! Sarah Palin knows what’s going on!”

I still wish I had more time to keep up, but there are things I can do, to help you drill down into this “GREATEST SCANDAL IN MODERN HISTORY,” which of course includes the plan, to “disrupt, demolish, and defeat” authentic America and its Sovereign Americans… which plan, of course spins around Barack Obama. — AW

Both of these videos are from Monday evening, April 26th. The Financial Times article is from this Sunday. They are elements of the most extensive scandal perhaps, since original sin.

While the Beck video is even much more significant than this, the point is that Barack Obama personally nixed real reform in the Obamafinance bill. The transparency would have gotten in the way of the astounding plan of which he is a focal point. This entire interview is important, but be sure to listen after the two minute mark, as Greta Van Susteren interviews Senator Jim DeMint.
Next, put that together with this story, out of Financial Times. This is where Barack Obama and his network are driving us. It is global corporatism, i.e., Marxofascism:

Next, we have Glenn Beck spelling out more of the story that Lord Christopher Monckton began to tell us, in October, 2009 and that Jesse Ventura related in one of his Conspiracy Theory programs. It has also been discussed by Brannon Howse and yes, by some of those “odd” conspiracy theory sites on the Internet (where there are human beings, conspiracy like fecal matter, happens).

Once again, of course, Barack Obama is front and center, along with the Chicago Climate Exchange, the Joyce Foundation, George Soros, Maurice Strong, Edmund de Rothschild, the Federal Reserve, Goldman Sachs, George W. Bush’s Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson, even Fannie Mae, and many others. It entails global Marxofascism / global kleptocracy, with Americans being the chief victims, while a few overlords rule at, and their financiers skim off, the top. If any “mainstream” reporters cared to cover this thoroughly (and could) they could be much bigger characters in U.S. and world history than Woodward and Bernstein. And as for Americans willingly instigating this, it is treason.

Bailout Bill Would Require Banks to Track and Report Personal Checking Accounts to Feds

It’s amazing to watch the civil libertarians hide when Democrats propose the most sweeping intrusions of privacy in generations. In addition to the litany of bad policies contained in the Dodd Financial Reform bill is this nugget on pages 1039-1040. In short, it extends government reach to every deposit account of every citizen.
Subtitle G of the Dodd discussion draft bill requires that records be maintained and reported “for each branch, automated teller machine at which deposits are accepted, and other deposit taking service facility with respect to any financial institution, the financial institution shall maintain a record of the number and dollar amounts of deposit accounts of customers.”

What’s worse, banks will be required to submit these records to the new super regulatory agency called the Consumer Financial Protection Agency (page 1041). The CFPA will be allowed to use this information for any purpose “as permitted by law” under CFPA rules—rules set by CFPA themselves.

So, lets get this straight—the law requires banks to snoop on its customers MOST PERSONAL INFORMATION and submit it to another government agency so it can be used anyway the CFPA see’s fit.

May Day – May Day. Here are some things that are happening, or have happened, upon this day.

Wiccans, according to their pagan and occult history are celebrating the “Beltane” rites of Spring. Further, it is rumored that upon the evening of May first, Satan worshipers practice initiation rites.

Whatever has or has not happened with this, since, on May 1, 1776, Adam Wieshaupt formed the “Order of Perfectibilists,” founding the Illuminati.

Communists and other Marxists are practicing their annual day of demonstration and whatever celebration they can muster.

The cause of open borders and amnesty for illegal aliens is being protested in numerous American cities (I have heard, seventeen). By the way, I am not an authority about the reasons behind the celebration of Cinco de Mayo, but I have been informed that date commemorates an event in Mexican history that is not really, very significant. However, it is interesting to note that May 5, 1818 is the birth date of Karl Marx. Something to look into.

Barack Obama is, as I type, giving a speech which may become notable in Obamalogist history, in which he is selling the idea of changing America from our foundational order. He is decrying the use of words such as “socialists,” “Soviets,” “fascists,” and “right-wing nut” (he inserted a slur against Constitutionalists among actual, academic words used against him, in subtle propagandistic fashion). Have you noticed that Democrat politicos do not use the words “Marxism” and “Communism” when they refer to this — and that Republican who do, are disciplined by party leaders? More on the use of terms later, I think.

In Obama’s address to University of Michigan graduates, he falsely characterized those who seek Constitutional restoration and equal, not social justice as “against government;” obvious agitprop legerdemain.

Wait! Here is this article’s “lead.” In Washington, D.C., again as I type, there is a massive prayer meeting, “a cry to God in a nation in distress.” You may go to mayday2010.org in order to investigate this particular event — and you may go directly to the Bible and to God in prayer, too. And tomorrow, you may even choose to go to a Bible-based church which advocates that Christians obey God by carrying out our full set of responsibilities, including that of “Caesar,” as the Sovereign Citizens in this nation established by God. Do you know of any in driving distance? We… we are America’s essential “leaders… who must give an account,” and who “do not bear the sword for nothing,” after all. But it all starts with hearing the Word of God and our prayer in return.

Perhaps the video of this May Day 2010 prayer meeting will remain available after the event, for your perusal and perhaps, participation.

A few thousand frames and a thousand words from “the president”

Looking over the video, I find it odd — Barack Obama’s stand-up routine before fellow guests last Saturday, last May Day night, at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner.

Firstly, it is not enough that he found it very humorous on the day Joe Biden dropped the F-bomb at the signing of Obamacare, as they presented to America their administration’s “Big F’ing Deal.” Biden related he was “laughin’ like the devil,” saying it was “the best thing” about the ceremony. Now, he has whispered that line into the microphones, himself, granted he said “big freaking deal,” and so properly that he even articulated the “ing” suffix correctly.

This is the United States “President” hitting us with it again, in a (supposedly comedic) speech, recounting this little stain upon his own administration’s alleged accomplishment like the guy who elbows you in the ribs, with a “Get it? Get it? Did-ja get it, huh? Did-ja get it?” And it comes to mind, this is the same individual whose accredited adolescent poetry about “Pop” scribed something about “…the same amber stain on his shorts that I have on mine and makes me smell his smell coming from me,” whatever… exactly… that means.

Trying to understand, I have to remember Obama’s issuing the middle finger flip-off at both Hillary Clinton and John McCain, once again, in speeches, those during his campaign for the United States of America’s most responsible office.

Secondly, on that very day when the National Enquirer’s tabloid buzz finally begins to “brake” the overripe story of apparent Obama mistress, Vera Baker into general public consciousness (and the Obamas must know that) look at Barack Obama’s face, when he speaks of his wife “…the lovely first lady…” Michelle. What do you see there? A genuine affection and appreciation that a husband has for his wife?

And when, in one breath, he uses both a reference in principle to that very love for one’s wife, plus and his own “natural born Citizen” problem — for a joke — look at his face. What do you see? Looking at it numerous times., he does not appear to be enjoying the joke he tells, at all. Quite the contrary.

See for yourself. The flippancy coming out of the mouth of that hard, cold face went over very well with the audience, though — with that audience — White House correspondents and their friends. Which is odder, the president or the journalists? I understand it is supposed to be humorous and they are laughing. At what, again?

Here are these early moments of his act, last Saturday.

• the fleeting exhibit of Obama’s face after his first mention of Michelle Obama and during the audience’s approval of it, comes 32 seconds in
• the referential f-bomb joke comes right after and here, by his extra pause for a chuckle and grin, he really does enjoy that moment
• the odd love-and-birth certificate comment accompanied by Obama’s even odder facial expressions arrive at the 4 minute mark

But again, I have to tell myself it is all appropriate, really. Cut him some slack. This is just how a boy who is raised Marxist and taken repeatedly by “Gramps” to a brothel bar to visit his communist mentor and apparent pedophile, “Uncle Frank” (ostensibly, the aforementioned, “Pop”) …well, this is how the kid is supposed to behave when he grows up to be president.

Then I remember, this is the man who appointed the unfortunate Kevin Jennings, a man who passed off statutory rape as no “big f’ing deal,” to be his “Safe Schools Czar.”

This is the Barack Obama who tried to get sex-ed with perverse “progressive” mores taught in public schools, beginning at Kindergarten (link-1, link-2).

This is the man who has defamed America, in speeches overseas and before the United Nations and who demeans the Sovereign Citizens of our republic by his bows to foreign leaders.

But to really put it in perspective, this is the man who has intentionally and determinedly worked according to the Marx-Trotsky-Gramsci-Davis-Alinsky-Cloward-Piven playbook, to weaken America morally, economically, and militarily, in The Great American Bring-Down necessary for the onset of global Marxofascism. Oh, that’s right. He’s that guy.

Last Saturday’s f-joke is that elbow in the ribs about was is beyond crude in this picture. And the delight in defilement seems to want to come out under the spotlight. What goes on in this person’s soul? What kind of childhood — and adulthood has gotten him this way, to want to sneak the vulgar and the filthy into the very times he is before microphones and spotlights, in the roles of candidate, then President of the United States?

When someone hold secrets of malice, a part of his heart can desire the glory of it — the credit for what he conceals. We can look back and see that serial criminals, from the carvings of Jack the Ripper, to the teeth marks of Ted Bundy, to the extravagant manifesto of Ted Kaczynski, like to leave their marks.

Deep inside, in places Obama “doesn’t talk about in his parties,” just how much loathing of the morality and sensibility that is common to America’s authentic nature does this man nurture and pet? How much lusts for expression? He is to be pitied, but he is the occupant of the White House. Keep watching.

On a day when many Americans will be reflecting upon how they can reduce their impact on the environment, President Barack Obama and Vice President Joe Biden will board separate jets in Washington on Earth Day morning to fly 250 miles up the east coast to New York, where they will land at separate airports to attend separate events within a few miles of each other.

The parallel visits of Air Force One (a 747/VC-25 aircraft) and Air Force Two (a 757/C-32A aircraft) will delay dozens, if not hundreds of commercial flights at Kennedy and LaGuardia and other nearby airports as no-fly zones are implemented. Jets will be forced to circle and burn more fuel as they wait for the VIPs to come and go. Their security contingents consisting of dozens of cars, SUVs and helicopters will burn even more. Throw in thousands of commuters’ cars and delivery trucks sitting idle in traffic as law enforcement closes large swaths of the city and you have yourself a very Earth-unfriendly day.

While Goldman Sachs’ lawyers negotiated with the Securities and Exchange Commission over potentially explosive civil fraud charges, Goldman’s chief executive visited the White House at least four times.

White House logs show that Chief Executive Lloyd Blankfein traveled to Washington for at least two events with President Barack Obama, whose 2008 presidential campaign received $994,795 in donations from Goldman’s political action committee, its employees and their relatives. He also met twice with Obama’s top economic adviser, Larry Summers.

No evidence has surfaced to suggest that Blankfein or any other Goldman executive raised the SEC case with the president or his aides. SEC Chairwoman Mary Schapiro said in a statement Wednesday that the SEC doesn’t coordinate enforcement actions with the White House or other political bodies.

President Barack Obama doesn’t plan at this time to give back almost $1 million in campaign contributions from employees of Goldman Sachs Group Inc.

“We make these decisions on a case-by-case basis, and in this case we have not accepted contributions from specific individuals accused of wrongdoing, nor have we advocated for positions that big Wall Street banks generally favor,” Hari Sevugan, a Democratic National Committee spokesman, said in a statement.

Obama, 48, received the contributions in 2007 and 2008 for his White House bid.

Donations from the bank’s employees have become an issue for political candidates from both parties after the Securities and Exchange Commission filed a fraud lawsuit April 16 against Goldman Sachs.

Obama was asked about the contributions in an interview yesterday with CNBC.

“I got a lot of money from a lot of people,” he said. “And the vast majority of the money I got was from small donors all across the country.”

Obama said his desire to change Wall Street rules was clear throughout the campaign.

“Anybody who gave me money during the course of my campaign knew that I was on record, again in 2007 and 2008, pushing very strongly that we needed to reform how Wall Street did business,” he said.

Biggest Money Sources

Obama received the money from employees and their family members, making Goldman Sachs second only to the University of California as his biggest source for donors in 2007 and 2008, according to the Washington-based Center for Responsive Politics.

In the president’s adopted home state of Illinois, the Republican candidate for the U.S. Senate seat Obama once held has said he will return about $21,000 from Goldman Sachs employees.

Mark Kirk, a five-term congressman from Chicago’s northern suburbs, said he wanted to “err on the side of caution” as the SEC case unfolded and would return the money.

Kirk announced the decision after his Democratic opponent, Illinois Treasurer Alexi Giannoulias, called on him to give back the contributions.

Obama and Democrats in Congress are proposing the most sweeping changes to financial regulation since the Great Depression and the president plans to deliver a speech on the subject today at the Cooper Union in New York.

Goldman Contributions

Kirk ranks sixth so far among House and Senate candidates for donations from Goldman employees during the 2010 election cycle, the center’s data shows. The top five are Democratic Congressman Michael McMahon of New York, Republican Senator Richard Shelby of Alabama, and three other New York Democrats: Senator Kirsten Gillibrand, Representative Scott Murphy and Senator Charles Schumer.

Goldman Sachs and its employees and family members gave $5.9 million to candidates in the 2007-2008 election cycle, the Center for Responsive Politics data shows. Three-quarters of that went to Democrats, the non-partisan group said.

The SEC filed a civil suit alleging Goldman failed to tell investors in a 2007 collateralized debt obligation that hedge fund Paulson & Co., which planned to bet against the CDO, helped select the underlying assets. The bank has denied the SEC’s accusations.

For Obama, Wall Street provided three of his seven biggest sources of contributors for the 2008 presidential campaign. In 2007 and 2008, Goldman Sachs employees and family members gave him $994,795, Citigroup Inc. $701,290, and JPMorgan Chase & Co. $695,132.

Even his surprise trip to Afghanistan on Sunday mobilized the perks of the presidency to marshal public opinion, as pictures were beamed home of Mr. Obama mobbed by U.S. troops.

On Thursday, the president challenged Republicans who planned to campaign on repealing his health-care bill with, “Go for it.” Two days later, he made 15 senior appointments without Senate consent, including a union lawyer whose nomination had been blocked by a filibuster.

Just before the House of Representatives passed sweeping health care legislation last Sunday, 41% of voters nationwide favored the legislation while 54% were opposed. Now that President Obama has signed the legislation into law, most voters want to see it repealed.

The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey, conducted on the first two nights after the president signed the bill, shows that 55% favor repealing the legislation. Forty-two percent (42%) oppose repeal. Those figures include 46% who Strongly Favor repeal and 35% who Strongly Oppose it.

In terms of Election 2010, 52% say they’d vote for a candidate who favors repeal over one who does not. Forty-one percent (41%) would cast their vote for someone who opposes repeal.

Not surprisingly, Republicans overwhelmingly favor repeal while most Democrats are opposed. Among those not affiliated with either major party, 59% favor repeal, and 35% are against it.

The Obama administration’s program to help struggling homeowners avoid foreclosure has posted “disappointing results” in part because its definition of success is “essentially meaningless,” a watchdog said today in a new report obtained by ABC News.

In his audit on the administration’s $75 billion Home Affordable Modification Program (HAMP), bailout watchdog Neil Barofsky  blasted the Treasury Department for he said were the shortcomings of the program.

Specifically, Barofsky criticized the administration for focusing on the number of homeowners who receive temporary help.

When the program was unveiled last year, the administration said by the end of 2012 it would help 3 million to 4 million homeowners “avoid foreclosure” by “reducing monthly payments to sustainable levels.” Treasury has stated that homeowners who have received offers for temporary mortgage modifications count towards this goal, a decision ripped by Barofsky.

“Defining success by how many offers are given can reasonably be received as essentially meaningless,” Barofsky said in his report. “It is simply not a useful measure.”

Under the program, Treasury provides incentives for banks to modify the mortgages of struggling homeowners. After an offer for a trial loan modification is extended to a borrower, the borrower can then move towards a permanent mortgage modification by continuing to make payments for three months.

To date, more than 1.3 million homeowners have received trial modification offers, but only 170,000 homeowners have received permanent modifications.

President Barack Obama smiles in the East Room of the White House in Washington, Tuesday, March 23, 2010, during the signing ceremony for the health care bill. As many as a dozen taxes in the new health care law violate President Barack Obama’s campaign pledge not to raise taxes on families earning less than $250,000 and on individuals earning less than $200,000.

At least seven of these taxes directly affect health consumers regardless of income, such as the individual mandate to buy insurance, the employer mandate, the tanning tax, and limits and penalties on health savings accounts. In addition, Republicans argue that the tax impact of the law should include indirect taxes, such as the annual taxes on the health care sector that will be passed on to consumers.

On many occasions during the 2008 presidential campaign, candidate Barack Obama pledged that, if elected, he would ensure that Americans earning less than $250,000 a year would not see a federal tax increase of any kind.

“I can make a firm pledge. Under my plan, no family making less than $250,000 a year will see any form of tax increases,” the Illinois senator told a crowd in Dover, N.H. on Sept. 12, 2008. “Not your income tax, not your payroll tax, not your capital gains taxes, not any of your taxes.”

As president, Obama repeated the pledge during his Feb. 24, 2009 address to a joint session of Congress.

“If your family earns less than $250,000 a year, you will not see your taxes increased a single dime. I repeat: not a single dime,” the president said.

The bulk of the $500 billion in tax increases in the new health care law targets households earning $250,000 and individuals earning $200,000 — for example, the increase in the Medicare payroll tax. But many of the taxes hit the general public at large.

The individual mandate, for example, will require all legal U.S. residents to purchase a government-approved health insurance plan beginning in 2014. Once the reconciliation bill is voted on in the Senate to amend the law signed by Obama this week, the individual mandate will require a single person to pay 2.5 percent of their income or $695 if they do not purchase health insurance.

Generally, a single person making $30,000 or more will have to pay a 2.5 percent penalty if they do not carry health insurance. A person making less than $30,000 will have to pay $695. This penalty/tax is found in Section 1501 of the bill for “requirement to maintain minimum essential coverage.

The government will also mandate that employers provide health insurance for their employees. This mandate would include small businesses with revenues below $250,000 per year. If the employer does not provide health insurance, the business will have to pay a tax of $750 for each full-time employee. For the employer who requires a waiting period of 30-to-60 days, there is a $400 tax per employee and $600 per employee if the business takes longer than 60 days to comply. This is found in Section 1513 of the bill for “shared responsibility for employers.”

Charles Boustany (R-La.), a doctor and member of the House Ways and Means Committee, which writes tax laws. “They may end up with revenue below $250,000 and will have less take-home pay.”

Under the new law, Americans would not be able to use pre-tax dollars from health savings accounts (HSA), flexible spending accounts (FSA), or health reimbursements accounts (HRA) to buy over-the-counter non-prescription medicines. This measure takes effect in 2011 and is supposed to bring in $5 billion dollars. This is found in Section 9003 of the law, under “Distributions for medicine qualified only if for prescribed drug or insulin.”

“Many of us expected the president would violate his pledge,” Boustany told CNSNews.com. “HSAs and FSAs are a prime example. There are other adjustments we will find as we dig into this law. The more the American people see, the more they will find how the amount of tax increases affects them personally.”

Further, the law increases the tax from 10 percent to 20 percent for non-medical early withdrawals from a health savings account for those under the age of 65. This measure takes effect in 2011 and is estimated to increase revenues by $1.3 billion. This is under Section 9004, “Increase in additional tax on distributions from HSAs and Archer MSAs not used for qualified medical expenses.”

Beginning in 2011, the government will impose a cap of $2,500 on FSAs, which are now unlimited, as a means of raising $14 billion in revenue. This is under Section 9005, “Limitation on health flexible spending arrangements under cafeteria plans.”

Those seeking a tan without catching natural rays will find a new 10-percent excise tax on using indoor tanning salons. The tax, estimated to raise $2.7 billion, will take effect in July. This is under Section 10907, “Excise tax on indoor tanning services in lieu of elective cosmetic medical procedures.”

Now, medical expenses that exceed 7.5 percent of a person’s adjusted gross income can be deducted for tax purposes. But the new law raises that deduction threshold to 10 percent of adjusted gross income, meaning fewer tax deductions for someone with high medical costs. This provision starts in 2013 and is supposed to raise $15.2 billion in revenue. This is under Section 9013, “Modification of itemized deduction for medical expenses.”

The law also imposes a 40-percent tax on high-cost insurance plans reaching $10,200, but exempts union members unless the cost of their plan reaches $27,500. This is called the “Cadillac tax.” This tax is actually on the insurer. This goes into effect in 2018 and is estimated to raise $32 billion in revenue.

There is also a tax on insured and self-insured health plans for a patient-centered outcomes research trust fund. Boustany called this a slush fund for the Department of Health and Human Services to dole out grants.

The government estimates it will bring in $107 billion in revenue from new taxes on insurance companies, drug manufacturers and medical device manufacturers. These are three separate indirect taxes that will be passed on to consumers, Republicans contend.

“The annual tax on drug manufacturers and device makers will all be passed along to the consumer,” Rep. Cynthia Lummis (R-Wyo.) told CNSNews.com. “The high-cost plan will encourage some employees to join a union to get a 40-percent discount.”

But Americans for Tax Reform, a libertarian taxpayer-advocacy group, does not believe it is necessary to consider indirect taxes.

“Frankly, you can say any tax is going to affect consumers. We didn’t need to really stretch to include too many other things,” ATR tax policy analyst Ryan Ellis told CNSNews.com. “We have seven that were pretty clear violations of President Obama’s pledge not to raise taxes on these people. The one you always hear people bring up is the Cadillac excise tax. That’s not a tax on people, that’s a tax on the insurance company. We’ve never asserted that that is a tax [on consumers] because frankly it isn’t. We don’t need to make that argument because there are seven that clearly are.”

Just before signing the bill into law, President Obama said, “And this represents the largest middle-class tax cut for health care in our history.”

A Democratic spokesman for the House Ways and Means Committee could not be reached for comment on Wednesday. But after Obama signed the bill on Tuesday, Ways and Means Committee Chairman Sander Levin (D-Mich.) said in a statement that the law provides tax credits for four million small businesses.

“Today, in the greatest of American traditions – opportunity and community – we enacted a law that will improve the overall health of our citizens and the overall well-being of our nation,” Levin said in the March 23 statement. “This legislation was the product of generations of hard work, driven by the personal stories of so many who have suffered from a lack of health insurance and the devastation of rising health care costs.”
